Work continues on updating Land Development Code

Work continues on updating the Land Development Code in Mesa County. That’s the document that guides how land is used, developed and built across unincorporated areas of the county. The latest revision of the draft was posted at the end of July 2026.

On Sept. 17, the planning department will present the changes to the Mesa County Planning Commission in a public hearing.

The changes in this draft include the removal of “community plans,” old sections of the development code that were specific to certain areas of Mesa County, which have since been addressed in the code and county master plan. Removing the old, redundant language makes the document clearer and reduces potential confusion, as many community plan objectives have been incorporated into the Mesa County Master Plan.

These updates are not tied to a single project or neighborhood. They set the framework for how future development happens across Mesa County.
