Commissioner JJ Fletcher recognized for leadership at federal level

Mesa County Public Health (MCPH) recognizes Commissioner JJ Fletcher for his dedicated service on the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Health Policy Steering Committee over the last year.

As part of the national committee, Commissioner Fletcher worked on federal policies that directly impact public health and community wellness. During his service on the committee, Commissioner Fletcher brought Mesa County’s perspective to national policy discussions that directly impact public health and community wellness. The committee focused on protecting funding for core public health services. They also worked to strengthen rural health programs and improve local agencies’ capacity to address mental health and substance abuse disorders.

“We truly appreciate Commissioner Fletcher’s continued leadership and partnership in supporting a strong public health system, both in Mesa County and across Colorado,” said Erin Minnerath, MCPH Executive Director. “Building a healthier community takes all of us together, and we are grateful for his advocacy at the federal level.”

Federal funding is vital for MCPH, and other local public health agencies, to prevent disease, respond to emergencies, and protect public health. NACo’s national advocacy helps secure these critical resources and improves financial stability for the everyday services our community relies on. 

Commissioner Fletcher serves as Mesa County Commissioner for District 3 and as the 2026 Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners.
